Update 14:38

Cesc is out! North/South champion is down at the first hurdle!

Update:

Main Event Quarter Finals

Footimaster - 3 vs 1 - Samir
In the early stages both players are playing cautiously, feeling each other out then on 15 mins Samir takes the lead with a nice side footed shot & on 22 mins he doubles his lead and Footi has it all to do. A great save by Samir on 27 mins and it looks like Samir is going to take a 2-0 lead into Half Time but on 40mins Footi gets a break and pulls one back and its 2-1 to Samir at the interval. After the restart its all Footi and he quickly equalises and in a matter of minutes completes the comback to makte it 3-2 to Footimaster on 75 minutes. Samir right at the death almost equalises but is left cursing as an easy chance go's wasted.

Greek - 2 Vs 1 - Menace
Greek continues his superb form and in the first half manages to hit the cross bar twice, have a goal disallowed and on 15 mins gets the all important goal to make it 1-0 at HT. The game is all Greek with Menace struggling to create any chances but on 60 mins Menaces' patience is rewarded with a well worked goal to make it 1-1. As the game is getting towards the end its very tense. A great tackle from the Greek on 86 mins prevents a certain goal and in stoppage time Menace hits the inside of the post. Then just as it looks like it will go into extra time The Greek hits a stoppage time winner.

Leng Jay - 3 Vs 2 - Shotz
Shotz go's into an early lead on 13 mins but Leng Jay immediately replies to make it 1-1 in the 20th minute. Again Shotz takes the lead in the 29th minute and quickly Leng Jay replies again to make it 2-2 at Half Time in a ping pong game. In the 70th minute Shotz gets a penalty but proves to be a costly miss as Leng Jay immediately go's up the other end and scores to make it 3-2 to Leng Jay. Then in stoppage time a cynical tackle from Leng Jay gives Shotz a second penalty and a chance to tie the match...but what proves to be his downfall in the match as he misses a 2nd penalty and Jacky wins 3-2.

Bad Boy G - 3 Vs 2 - Oz
OZ takes an early lead after 5 mins, but Bad Boy replies in the 20th minute to make it 1-1. OZ wins a penalty just before Half Time but misses only to see Bad Boy go up the other end and make it 2-1 to Bad Boy at HT. The second half is quite tense but the pressure pays off as Oz finally equalises on the 67th minute only to see BAd Boy immediately regain the lead and run out winner for 3-2 to Bad Boy.

Main Event Travel Update

Both the Metropolitan and Jubilee lines are closed this weekend for engineering works. This means that there is no access to Wembley Park via the tube this weekend at all.

However, there are a few alternatives.

There is a rail replacement bus service and the overground to Wembley Central. Wembley Central is on the Bakerloo line.

From Wembley Central it takes around 15 mins to walk to the stadium, or you can take a bus: 92,PR2, 182,83,223,297
For the return journey at night, the buses running are numbers 83 and 297

There is also an overground service running from London Marylebone to Wembley Stadium.
Two we suggest you might use are at 8.24 and 9.24am on Saturday, arriving at 8.33 and 9.33 respectively.

We do have some good news, in that we're trying to get PES2011 code at the Main Event so fingers crossed any travel will be worth your while!

UK Main Event Contenders

In 9 days the UK's best 64 PES players will descend on Wembley Stadium for this year's UK PES Grand Finals. Months of competition have led to this and they will all fight it out for thousands of pounds worth of prizes.

Ahead of this years finals I caught up with a few of the main contenders to get their views on the biggest PES tournament in the UK. Trying to uncover how they prepare for such an event and try and get you an insight into their successful formations.

Marko9Gardnic

Name: Mark Gardiner
Age: 26
Rank: 9

Best Achievements this year?
Winning the Glasgow random team offline event in April. Reason being is I'm the only player to have won an official offline event every season on rankings so I had to win one this season to keep my run going

How are you feeling going into the Finals?
Not bad, I think I can beat any player on the day but I don't think I can keep doing it over a few games. Getting out of the groups will be a success!

How do you prepare for the finals?
By playing the game as little as possible, I'm at my best when I dont play for a while

What team will you play as?
Argentina

If you could change/add one thing to PES 2011 what would it be?
Make dribbling less effective, would make people pass the ball for a change.

Who do you think will win UK Finals?
Rob Mclean

What is your formation and how will you set up?

Click here to view Marko's formation

GK - Carrizo
CB - Demechelis
CB - Samuel
CB - Heinze
DMF - Veron
DMF - Mascherano
RWB - Maxi
AMF - Tevez
SS - Messi
SS - Aguero
CF - Higuain

RobMclean

Name: Robert Mclean
Age: 22
Rank: 4

Best Achievements this year?
None, been average all year, won one offline and a player of the month. Qualified for PS PESFan finals.

How are you feeling going into the Finals?
Not very confident. I'm probably top ten this year on Rankings in terms of ability but not good enough to challenge the best players. If I get all the breaks and a good draw who knows but I'm definitely not one of the favourites so just going to be pretty relaxed and take a few more risks than normal.

How do you prepare for the finals?
Normally I practise a lot, this year I'm just going see how it goes, not expecting much so no pressure. Will probs play a bit with Footimaster between now and then and maybe Cesc. Going to take some money off The Greek and iGod in a few cash games to warm up.

What team will you play as?
Argentina.

What is your formation and how will you set up?

Click here to view Rob's formation.

Four three three. Will set up a nice solid base to work from so I'm not easy to break down. Will try and push my opponents back with cutting passing and dribbling but my strikers and attacking midfielders will be set up to primarily catch people on the counter attack with Messi and Aguero being my main outlets should they manage to not be pinned back the whole game. I'm probably at my best on the counter attack.

If you could change/add one thing to PES 2011 what would it be?
I would make it more of a simulation and less of an arcade game.

Who do you think will win UK Finals?
Footimaster or Lengjay, no questions. Cesc closely following them. Good luck to everyone, hope you all enjoy it.

Footimaster

Name:Farhad Shah
Age: 19
Rank: 1

Best Achievements this year:
Winning London event twice, Winning Manchester event twice including a £500 event, Winning Reading event, finishing runner up in NvS, runner up in London and Reading once

How are you feeling going into the Finals?
I feel confident right now. There's a few adjustments I need to make after the latest squad updates but generally I've been in good form since the turn of the year

How do you prepare for the finals?
Try and practice a couple of weeks before the event. For me it's important to work on your flaws as a player so you can only improve. I have had a man sent off in my last 2 major events that has prevented me from winning so I need to make sure it doesn't happen a third time

What team will you play as?
Brazil

Who do you think will win UK Finals ?
I think it's between me, Lengjay and Mclean. We've all been there and done it before so we know what it takes. There'll be players out there that will view me as the favourite because I'm ranked number one but for me it's important to focus on your own game and be as consistent as possible
Best Achievements this year?

Winning North v South of course, especially in the manner I did, beating all the regional finalists after qualifying from a league, and coming down from 2-0 down is also sweet. I doubt it will be topped, it was a relief aswell in a way that it just cemented me up there with achievement of great players like Marko, Rob and Jacky who won NvS or equivalents (Coventry), and it proved to myself that I had the minerals to win a big event. I aint saying Ive hit their levels, I really doubt I ever will, but a great feeling for sure.

How are you feeling going into the Finals?
Looking to enjoy it and win of course haha, I feel good. Ill do my best, if I win then terrific, if I dont, then it wasnt to be. Lots of big competitors, who are just as good, if not better than me, so I just have to be at the top of my game, and the best way to do that is to wait until the day comes and take it game by game. It's going to be a fun day for sure at Wembley!

How do you prepare for the finals?

As long as I have a formation set in stone, then its just about playing a few games to keep sharp and that, maybe a few games online, however I really do think the best practise is offline, as I find players and teams to be more effective for me offline than online. I don't have a formation yet for Brazil, so I guess I might have to practise more than I want. Getting the formation is important, but equally on the day you have to be able to produce at crucial stages.

What team will you play as?

Brazil I think. It was a definite before the update, having Diego and Ronaldinho occupying the midfield positions was just sublime, perfect for me as I like to do alot of 1-2s. Pato was a class CF. Fabiano is a decent substitute for Pato, but Diego and Ronaldinho were big big losses as I hate playing with midfielders who cant pass well. I like a Xavi/Alonso/ Fabregas player in my team, and Diego was that for me, whilst Ronaldinho was the same, just in a more advanced role. Who knows, I will try Argentina, but its likely to be Brazil.

What is your formation and how will you set up?
Note: the white arrows, means player mentality is set to attack minded
Blue arrow means normal
Dark blue arrow means Defence minded.
I'm not 100% yet on formation for finals, so instead I'll show you my formation which won me NvS. As you can see it's a 4-3-3 with defenders pushed up and forwards as deep as possible. This makes it easier to play passes as players are in closer unison, and also, it just means the pitch is smaller. It can be risky on the break as the defence are high up, but I've always liked having it compact like Barcelona. There is a rhombus shape starting from the RB, DM, CM and AMF and that I purposely put in for quick passing between the players to counter attack.
Take those repulsive grandad turns out of the game. They are professional footballers for heaven's sake!
Who do you think will win UK Finals ?
I reckon the rest will go fishing for replies or give out a generic response to this question. I'll be blunt, Irfy's going to knock everyone cold.
Those are just a few of the main contenders, also in the running will be last years Rankings Champion LengJay, prolific online winner The_Greek and highly successful Scot Jonny Nelson.
